Information, Requirements and Policy

Eligibility to enter any of the Competitions:

Eligibility: To Qualify to enter any of the competitions you must have signed up for at least one Full Day of NYCairo Festival workshops. 
In these competitions you are allowed to dance to only one of these three styles; Oriental (Modern or Classic), Shaabi or Baladi, these three styles are not separate categories. Our judges will judge you based on your own interpretation of the style you picked against the other dancers with the style they picked.
Props: The only props will be allowed are veilks and zills.
Time: 3.5 minutes maximum 4 munities.

NYCairo QUEEN (Two Rounds)

First Round Friday May 19th: A song of your choice; the song must follow the Competition Guidelines regarding timing and style.
Second Round Saturday May 20th:

The second round will be performed before our Superstar Gala show, starting at 8:30pm, if you happen to be one of the finalists, The song will be chosen by a lottery pick from one of the 10 songs listed below and will be emailed to you that evening so you can practice to it.

The MP3 files for each song will be published on the site 2 weeks before the start of the festival.

These songs will be recorded tracks and you will be able to study them before the final competition. Let your expertise and professionalism shine through. As a professional your entire performance will be studied by our judges, in addition to the criteria mentioned bellow. 

NYCairo Rising Star - One Round

Friday May 19th. 

Music: A song of your choice; the song must follow the Competition Guidelines regarding timing and style.
Time: 3.5 munites maximum 4 Minutes.
Once you registered to compete, we will send you a link to upload your music and photo, this link will be emailed to you about two month prior to the opening day of the festival.
Winners Announcement: The announcement will take place the same night of the competition.

NYCairo Group - One Round

Friday May 19th. 

Must consist of Two or more dancers, and no more than 8 dancers. There is no time experience required.

Free Style, as long as related to Oriental Dance, this could be Oriental, Folklore or Oriental Fusion.
 
Props: All allowed
Time: 3.5 munites maximum 4 Minutes

Soloist Judging Criteria:
  • Choreography / Musical interpretation.
  • Technique / use of stage.
  • Stage presence / Make up / Hair.
  • Appropriate costuming / style.
  • Feelings and expression.
Group Judging Criteria:
  • Choreography / Musical interpretation.
  • Synchronization.
  • Technique / use of stage.
  • Stage presence / Make up / Hair.
  • Appropriate costuming / style.
  • Feelings and expression
General Conduct:
  • Participants must wear a proper dance garment, including under garment.
  • Participants must use cover-up before and after the competition.
  • Refrain from discussing the competition results with the judges, all rulings are final.
  • Contestants will conduct themselves at all times in a positive and professional manner.
  • The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any contestant whose behavior is intrusive or disruptive to other contestants, the judges or the audience.
  • Contestants agree to abide by all rules & procedures and accept the judging results as final.
Important Notice to Soloists:
  • The organizers hold each competitor responsible for the information they provide. Organizers are not obligated to check the background of any competitor, therefore, please take note that failure to adhere to the above requirements and at the discretion of the organizers only, participant may disqualify to be permitted into the competition and any winnings and title may be stripped at any time during or after the festival.

Constructive Criticism

Upon request contestants will be provided by the judges of their general comments regarding their show. These comments will highlight the good qualities as well as the qualities that need to be improved upon. .
